The Monticello CUSD #25 will have a vacancy on the School Board effective June 30. Board President Gary Huisinga has submitted a letter of resignation as Board Member. Gary first became a Board member in 2001, was on the Board for 20 years, and has served as Board President since July 2016. The school board has 60 days from June 30 to appoint a replacement board member to fill the seat until the next election which will be held in the Spring 2023. Monticello CUSD #25 is accepting letters of interest to fill the vacant seat on the Board of Education. Board Members must be at least 18 years of age, a resident of Illinois and the school district for at least the past year, and a registered voter. Interested parties should submit a letter of interest, a resume and any other information that may help the board evaluate the appointment in writing or via email to Superintendent Vic Zimmerman at 2 Sage Drive, Monticello or firstname.lastname@example.org. In order to ensure full consideration please respond by July 2. Due to the makeup of our current BOE, the new member cannot reside in the township/range 18N5E (SW part of school district – west of Market St and south of Lodge Park) as we have three members currently residing in that area. If you have questions, please contact Superintendent Vic Zimmerman (email@example.com or 762-8511) or Board Vice President Kevin Frye (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Monticello CUSD #25 will dismiss one hour early on Wednesday, May 26 in order to allow for the Officer Chris Oberheim funeral procession preparations to commence around town. It is expected that the procession will be in Monticello at 2:20PM, but streets will start to be blocked off around 1:00PM. The procession route will drive from Decatur on I-72, come in on Bridge St/Center St and turn left on State St to the cemetery. A very large number of police vehicles from all over the area/state/country are expected to be in town during this time. Dismissal times will be HS/MS/WH at 12:00, WASH at 12:10 and LINC at 12:15. No PM Small Wonders on this day.
We have been informed that the funeral for Chris Oberheim will be Wednesday in Decatur with burial in Monticello. A procession will drive from the funeral to the cemetery. The family has requested the local VFW work with an organization to post flags along the procession route. We have been contacted by The Flagman Mission (https://www.theflagmanmission.org) who will be bringing 2500 flags to line the route. We need the assistance of any and all people available to post the flags at 3PM-5PM on Monday (5/24) and take them down at 3PM-5PM on Thursday (5/27). Please meet in the Sievers Center parking lot (Kratz Road behind Monticello High School) by 3PM on Monday to receive instructions from Flagman Mission Organizer Jeff Hastings. Jeff will have everything needed to get the job done - he suggested you bring gloves. This is an excellent opportunity for Monticello to once again show our support for the Oberheim Family. All ages and families welcome. Feel free to share this request on social media and with anyone who might be interested in assisting in this effort. See you all on Monday!
We will be dismissing 30 minutes early (5/20) at all schools in order for traffic and buses to be clear for the Officer Chris Oberheim escort through Monticello on the way to Decatur at approximately 1:30. Dismissal times will be HS/MS/WH at 12:30, WASH at 12:40 and LINC at 12:45. All Small Wonders PK times will stay the same.
It is with deep sadness that we process the news of the passing of Chris Oberheim while working as a Champaign Police Officer early this morning. Chris was a parent in our school district and was very involved in the lives of his four daughters, three of which currently attend our schools. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Police Officers, Firefighters, and other first responders put their lives on the line every day to ensure that the rest of us are safe - they are there when we need them during our most difficult times and are often not appreciated for their daily work. Tragedies like this bring out the best in all of us as we rally around them and their families during difficult times. The Monticello School District, the City of Monticello, and all of Officer Oberheim's fellow officers will rally around the Oberheim Family during this time. RIP 703.

Monticello Schools will have an Emergency Remote Learning Day today (1/26/21) due to icy road conditions —> http://shorturl.at/acsL2
Monticello CUSD #25 will go to 100% Full Remote Learning November 18-December 4.
In an abundance of caution, the Lincoln School Small Wonders Pre-School Program will go to 100% Remote Learning through Wednesday, November 11. We have been informed that one employee and one student in our Small Wonders Pre-School Program at Lincoln School have tested positive for COVID-19. While all safety and cleaning procedures have been followed to the greatest extent possible, preliminary contact-tracing shows that likely all students, faculty and staff in our pre-school program are close contacts. All other grades and classrooms at Lincoln School are open for in-school learning.
Since Oct 16 six students at MHS have tested positive for COVID and 35 students are on quarantine. MHS will continue with 100% Remote Learning for Oct 26-30. The first quarter ends on Oct 30. No school for students Nov 2-3. In-person learning at MHS resumes on Nov 4.
Monticello Schools shares Emergency Remote Learning Day Plan --> shorturl.at/acsL2. The plan may be implemented on days when weather or an emergency does not allow for school buildings to be open.
We have been informed that three students at Monticello High School have tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing by Dewitt-Piatt Bi-County Health Department is on-going. It is apparent that these cases may lead to multiple close contacts resulting in a required quarantine of other students. In an abundance of caution while we are awaiting contact tracing to be completed by Dewitt-Piatt Bi-County Health Department, Monticello High School will go to 100% Remote Learning for the week of October 19 - October 23rd. While COVID cases are spiking in the area, please reconsider attending social events where multiple individuals may be congregating in groups without maintaining social distancing or without wearing masks. All safety and cleaning procedures have been followed at Monticello High School in order to minimize risk and the potential spread of COVID-19 to others. Meals: Distribution day for high school students is Tuesday, October 20th outside MHS cafeteria from 11-11:30AM. Parents need to sign-up in advance for lunch/breakfast pickup. Breakfast and lunch for the week will be included in each distribution. The deadline to sign up is 10 AM on Monday, October 19th. https://forms.gle/SrxD52NnCnhyGdCcA Extracurriculars: All out of season extracurricular activities are suspended until further notice. In season extracurricular activities are suspended until contact tracing has been completed at Monticello High School. Information regarding specific activities as well as resuming extracurricular activities will be forthcoming. MHS 100% Remote Learning Schedule: All students, in-person and at home learners, will follow the schedule below. M, T, W, TH: Office hours by appointment - 8:00 - 11:00AM and 2:30 - 3:30PM Monday and Wednesday are A Days A1 11:30 - 12:45 A4 1:00 - 2:15 Tuesday and Thursday are B Days B1 11:30 - 12:45 B3 1:00 - 2:15 Friday: Remote planning for Teachers , Office hours by appointment daily COVID-19 may cause severe symptoms, although many cases are asymptomatic (have no symptoms). Watch your student and yourself for possible symptoms of COVID-19. They occur most often 3-7 days after exposure but may take as long as 14 days to develop. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, diarrhea, muscle aches, loss of sense of taste or smell, fatigue, and shortness of breath, among others. COVID-19 is very contagious, starting 3 days before symptoms appear and lasting until most symptoms begin to improve, generally about 10 days. People who have COVID-19 must be isolated in separate rooms with separate dining and bathroom facilities. The virus SARS CoV-2 causes it. Treatment is very limited. Some medications do help persons in the hospital. No vaccine is currently available, although scientists are working to develop one by early 2021. If your child or anyone in your household has or develops symptoms: 1. Contact your regular health care provider to discuss the symptoms. Ask if anyone in the home needs to be evaluated. If your doctor advises testing, be aware that it is best performed at least 3 days after exposure to a person with COVID-19. 2. Until the symptoms resolve, avoid contact with others who have not had COVID-19. Do not attend school, day care, work, parties or other gatherings. If you or anyone else in your household has a weakened immune system or is pregnant, call your doctor. For further questions, please call the Dewitt-Piatt Bi-County Health Department at 217.762.7911.
