Jennifer Smith, a Monticello Middle School Science Teacher, was recently chosen to receive the SCORE Grant from the Illinois Education Association. The SCORE Grant's purpose is to "encourage early career members and their local associations to collaborate and create opportunities for community service or school projects that were substantive and meaningful."
For Smith, the grant helped start a Science Club that focuses on baking and to help the students understand how science plays a role in everyday life. The food they've made has then been shared with other schools in the district and with local community organizations.
Smith has also been selected as one of the 2014 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovators, which are chosen for "their passion and commitment to innovative teaching practices that integrate digital media and technology in the classroom."
